The Practice of Kangaroo Care

Kangaroo Care is a practice that helps in the development of the newborn’s emotional settlement by letting the mother and the baby nestle together for as long as possible and being exposed to each other’s bare skin right after the delivery. This was first practiced in Bogota, Columbia in 1983 due to the lack of incubators for premature babies. However, it is now commonly practiced in first world nations throughout North America and Europe. It is called Kangaroo Care because the method of this practice is similar to how kangaroos give birth to premature babies and then they look after them by keeping them close in their pouch.
